12th Annual Asian Festival at The Daley Center PDF Print E-mail

Indonesian Performing Arts Chicago (IPAC) participated at the opening of the 12th ANNUAL ASIAN AMERICAN FESTIVAL 2010 at the Daley Plaza, May 17th 2010. This year theme is “One Vision - Many Voices" and the event is hosted by Indian American Community. Mayor of Chicago, Richard M. Daley was present at the opening ceremony along with IL Senator Dan Rutherford, Mayor of Bolingbrook Roger Claar and many more goverment officials. Joannie Lumm from CBS 2 was the Master of Ceremony for the day. The Asian Festival activities include : Product vendors open from 9:00am to 5:00pm, Food vendors open from 10:30 am to 3:00pm & Cultural Performances on Stage - 12:00pm to 1: 00 pm, from May 17th - May 21th. Participating Communites:Bangladeshi, Cambodian, Chinese, Filipino, India, Indonesia, Japanese, Malaysia, South Korea, Pakistani, Pan-Asian, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Chicago Public School, and others.

Indonesian Performing Arts Chicago (IPAC) presented "Flower of the World" (Sekar Jagat) dance from the Island of Bali. The representative from The Indonesian Consulate General Office in Chicago was also present, and also some  of the Indonesian community leaders to support both IPAC and the organizer.

Great job IPAC and congratulation to Indian American Community for hosting this unique event.

"Cendrawasih Dance" was presented by Indonesian Performing Arts Chicago (iPAC) at the 3rd Annual Taste of Laren, a family feast organized by Laren Montessori School on March 13, 2010 at Thornwood High School - South Holland, IL. This family feast not only features cultural program from different countries, but also many... ethnic food to taste for reasonable price including Spring Rolls, Fried Noodles & Fried Rice from the Indonesian booth which was sold out by the end the the feast. Congratulation to Laren Montessori School for a well organized event, and thank you IPACers for your continuing support to the organization.

Indonesian Performing Arts Chicago is a not for profit organization with 501(c) status, the life of our organization solely supported by our members, the parents of our students and generous donors of individual who want to see us to succeed. Our membership open to anyone who are interested in learning Indonesian arts mainly traditional dances and musics.  Currently our members are actively learning Indonesian traditional dance dan Balinese gamelan ensemble with our dance teacher Putu Oka Mardiani and gamelan teacher I Ketut Gede Asnawa.  We have performed on many occasions, among them are at the Indonesian Gala a fundraising event for the earthquake victims in Sumatra Indonesia, The 9th Ramayana Dance Drama with Gamelan Genta Kasturi from Kansas City, Ann Dunham (the mother of President Barack Obama) Batik Exhibition at The Drake hotel in Chicago, performed at the Millennium Park with Eka Sruti Lantari organized by The Great Performer of Illinois.

Our Children Gamelan ensemble are the first in the North America and has performed at many prestigious events in front of honorable guests. We consider them the star and the light of our organization, thru them we see the bright future and the faith of our mission in promoting Indonesian Arts and Culture in our society.

Our missions are to promotes and preserves the cultural arts of Indonesian in the Chicagoland area through the sharing of Indonesian dance, music, culture and traditions.

Indonesian Night at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign PDF Print E-mail

Indonesian Performing Arts Chicago (iPAC) was participated at the Indonesian Night 2010 hosted by the Indonesian Students Club University of Illinois Urbana Champaign held on March 7, 2010. The theme "Emerald of the Equator" was show case the rich culture from several regions on Indonesia. The event started with video presentation of Indonesia followed by "Sekar Taman Dance", a welcome dance from Bali, choreographed by Mrs. Putu Oka Mardiani and accompanied by live gamelan directed by Mr. I Ketut Gede Asnawa, played by some of his students at U of I. The beautiful choir performance sang some of the national and traditional Indonesian songs was performed by the students followed by "Serampang Dua Belas dance" from Sumatra Island performed by iPAC. During intermission, the audience has a chance to taste some of the popular Indonesian food such as Nasi Goreng, Risoles, Pisang Goreng and Es campur for dessert. The event continued with Angklung performance and Fashion show of some of the Indonesian Traditional customs, all performed by the Indonesian Students Club and to close the event, Indonesian Performing Arts Chicago (iPAC) performed "Belilbis dance" from Bali accompanied by live gamelan directed by Mr. I Ketut Gede Asnawa, who also iPAC music director.
Besides some of faculties and students of University of Illinois, the event also attended by Mr. Stephanus Suwaryanto & Madam Patricia and Mr. Redo from the Indonesian Consulate General in Chicago. Congratulation to the Indonesian Students Club for a successful event, thank you to Mr. & Mrs. Asnawa and family for their warm welcome and hospitality, and special thanks to iPAC performers for your dedication and contribution to our organization.
